First things first, congratulations to the 2019 Super Bowl Champions* the New England Patriots. I know it was extremely tough for the Pats and their fans to go more than a year without hoisting the Lombardi trophy. Not to mention the fact that it’s been a grueling 98 days since the Red Sox won the World Series. I can’t even imagine how hard it must’ve been to go months without winning a championship. Credit to them for sticking it out during such a tough time. It’s good to see Boston fans finally catch a break!
Now while the entire sports media is fawning over the Patriots for winning the Super Bowl* I would like to remind everyone that the Patriots lost by DOUBLE DIGITS to the Lions this season. Matt Patricia out coached Bill Belichick, the Lions embarrassed the Patriots in front of a national audience, and Tom Brady shriveled up like a raisin under the bright lights of Ford Field. Some might say it was the worst loss in Patriots history. The events of that night left a permanent black mark on the Patriots organization and Tom Brady’s legacy that no amount of success this season was going to erase.
I refuse to let them off the hook. When you are considered to be the class of the league like the Patriots are, you don’t get to lose to one of the worst franchises in NFL history by 16 and simply brush it under the rug. That’s not how this works.
Let me make something crystal clear…..this is not about jealousy. This has nothing to do with the fact that I am 24 years old and have never seen the Lions win a single playoff game while there are teenagers running around New England who have seen the Patriots win the Super Bowl 6 times. That doesn’t bother me at all. This is bigger than that. This is about protecting the shield and ensuring that future generations of football fans know the truth.
During week 3 of the 2018-2019 NFL season, the greatest coach/QB tandem of all time in Brady and Belichick bent the knee at the feet of Matt Patricia and Matthew Stafford. FACT!
If the NFL has an ounce of dignity they will put an asterisk next to the Patriots name as the 2019 Super Bowl Champions* in the record books. Do the right thing for me one time Roger. This is about drawing a line in the sand and setting a precedent. Any team who gets emasculated as bad as the Patriots did on September 23, 2018 should not be allowed to call themselves the Super Bowl Champs without mentioning that they lost to the Lions.
